A History of Quality

The Oregon Connection/ House of Myrtlewood staff have a collected experience of over 100 years between them.

Products are handmade by skilled craftsmen and, due to the nature of myrtlewood, are always unique.

From bowls to large tables and clocks, there is a wide variety of high quality, myrtlewood items to choose from in an ever-expanding product line.

Oregon Connection

The Oregon Connection / The House of Myrtlewood is one of the oldest businesses in Coos Bay and was started in 1929.

Star of Hope purchased the business in December of 2005 as a way to expand vocational and employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

In managing The Oregon Connection / House of Myrtlewood, Star of Hope also kept the business true to the expectations of its loyal customers. The shop continues to provide quality Myrtlewood products made with expertise and sold by friendly clerks.

Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation generously provided a $5,000 grant award for equipment and training for adults with developmental disabilities to work with myrtlewood at The Oregon Connection.

Autzen Foundation generously donated $5,000 for purchase of equipment.

Karen Craig has donated over $10,000 to purchase equipment.

Coquille Tribal Community Fund generously awarded $3,000 for equipment to increase jobs for adults with developmental disabilities.

Star of Hope's hand woven loom rugs and handmade greeting cards, both produced by adults with developmental disabilities, are also available in the store.
